Safeguarding Matters
About the course:
Safeguarding Matters is a series of 5 modules using scenario-based learning to tell the story of a fictional civil society organisation called Family Health Frontiers. Over the 5 modules, learners join the team as they seek to become a safer organisation and navigate challenges.
This course was translated into 15 different languages and contextualised for 5 different global regions, meaning there were over 75 modules created in total.
Our involvement:
The original 5 modules were created with the Safeguarding Resource & Support Hub team in 2020. We helped to develop and rationalise the content, as well as creating the characters to tell the story. The modules themselves were built in rise with a series of Storyline activites, and we also put together the Moodle hosting page with a series of microlearning and email nudge notifications to encourage people back to the course.
This original set of modules was translated into 5 languages, one of which was Arabic, which is unsupported in Rise. We had a lot of development time dedicated to making the Arabic learner’s experience as close to that of the english speaker as possible. This led to the creation of bespoke code and CSS to facilitate this aim.
There were then 4 further global regions that these were contextualised for, which went beyond simple translation and instead involved creating new chracters and course storyline that was appropriate to the audience.
All of the moodle build was also our responsiblity to rebuild after translation. This was arguably our biggest project in recent years.
