I love getting to know new topics through the passions of others. For example, after 17 courses with EIT Urban Mobility, it’s hard not to drop facts about sustainable city planning into everyday conversations or follow trending news about the future of our public transport!

Working with the third sector is especially rewarding. We’ve had the privilege of developing courses for lots of different charities, like the The Eric Liddell Community, Club Soda, Terre des hommes foundation, and Save the Children UK. Education is vital – it inspires, gives hope, and supports personal growth. Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) (EiE Online) highlights the importance of education, particularly for those displaced by disasters, but also reminds us that education should be playful! (Designing contextualised branching scenarios was really fun!)

We’re currently working on a project with the Spotlight Initiative to develop an online resource addressing violence against women and girls (VAWG). This project is enabling us to bridge UX-UI web design for education purposes – comprehensive but concise! Watch this space!

As I’ve delved deeper into technology and AI, I’ve become more convinced that it is most effective when we integrate human interaction and genuine voices. The aspect of learning design that I really enjoy is storytelling. Whenever an idea is complex or challenging, the best way to express it is with a good story, based on real human experiences. This is especially effective when dealing with sensitive topics. Designing a course around real case studies, or highlighting individual experiences, helps to prevent stereotypes and tropes, provides context and can make the learning more impactful.

I also like working with subject specialists and practitioners from different industries. My job is to get fired up by their enthusiasm and to distil their knowledge and present it in a way that engages a bigger audience. Recently, I’ve been working with lovely clients and experts, creating courses that genuinely bring about change and improvement for people. The work that I’m particularly proud of is around the theme of sport for development. The International Platform on Sport and Development, Women Win, and The Eric Liddell Community projects are my paragons. There’s always something I could have done better, but I have been so convinced by the knowledge of my colleagues and the message of empowerment within the courses, that I have gone from being the kid that hated PE, to recently taking up Karate with my daughter.

Looking ahead, I’m keen to keep experimenting with technology, finding ways to amplify the voices of the experts that I work with.

My main passion lies with creative briefs. There’s an unparalleled joy in generating ideas that not only align with a brand but also bring a fresh perspective to the table. It’s this aspect of my work that keeps me invigorated and invested in what I do.

Over my three years at Woodgate Consulting, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a diverse set of companies, including Terre des hommes foundation, Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, and Plan International. More recently, I’ve worked closely with EIT Urban Mobility on a series of courses focusing on the sustainable development of cities, looking at the way we move and travel. This has allowed me to work with some amazing experts from all around the world from whom I have learnt so much.

I’m a passionate advocate for learning and education, be that through courses or reading, especially surrounding political topics such as feminism and climate change. I believe in the transformative power of education to drive positive change, and I am committed to contributing my skills and passion to this cause. Also, if you work with me for long enough, you’ll undoubtedly see a few hair colour changes (I’ve already changed it three times since this picture was taken).

What really drives me is a creative challenge that allows me to solve problems in innovative ways, and working in collaboration with others. I also have a keen eye for visuals, which has stood me in good stead to really expand my abilities in graphic design and image creation since joining Woodgate Consulting. Nearly a year in, I am still learning but have become much more confident in my creative skills and my knowledge of the learning design industry. It is a great way for me to keep my passion for storytelling, and my technical abilities at the forefront of my work.

I have also really enjoyed the variety of work involved, and the differences in tone and visual style from client to client. I have predominantly worked on projects in conjunction with EIT Urban Mobility, and have really enjoyed the sense of pride I felt recently with Car Sharing, DRT, and Flexible Curbside Management. Building these courses and seeing a lot of images that I have personally created being integral to the final product really helps me see my input on the project, as well as reminding me that the collaborative efforts of my colleagues and I have yielded great results, and the positive feedback from clients really cements this feeling. Every day I am continuing to learn, and I am growing in both confidence and ability.
